Reviews about Peter's No Frills
- 3 / 5By Jason MoodyI want so badly to say great things about No Frills. They are so close to being a perfect grocer.
Their prices are excellent, even contrasting to the nearby Walmart, they're often better priced, and they have more selection than Walmart does. I honestly don't know why people shop at Walmart for food when this place is right across the road.
The bad: No Frills is OFTEN out of the things I regularly purchase. I buy six things from No Frills regularly. Ice Cream, Frozen Fruit, Whipped Cream, Chocolate Milk, various cases of soda, and 10% cream. I regularly leave No frills missing one of those items because they are out!
The store is very ordinary. It doesn't always seem as clean as Sobey's or even as clean as Walmart, and making sure you have a loonie for the privilege of using a shopping cart is a hassle some days ( I do understand it's a cost saving measure to make people bring the carts back to the store, which in turn, means they hire less staff, and have lower overhead, which means lower prices).
The prices here are excellent however, and it's this that keeps me coming back every week. Although the price of milk, for example, has now been met or bettered by other stores, it's still the best place to get my regular items in one stop.
I like their rewards program, my regular purchases often come up on the weekly rewards, which makes me feel good about shopping there. I've never encountered or observed any trouble with staff, although it seems there's not a lot of them at times.
There is no deli, and the meat selection offers only a very basic selection. We don't have any store in Olds with a good meat department, Sobey's is better, but still lacks the variety found in the city. Again what No Frills has is priced very well. No Frills feels like it gets last choice of produce compared to other stores as well, which is on par with most Loblaw brand stores, and not specific to this particular one.
Overall, I shop here for specific items, rarely for general groceries. I shop here more than Walmart or the Co-op (because the price is better), but not as often as Sobeys, which is now able to directly compare themselves since they've brought their pricing in line with discount stores such as this. No Frills has a decent international Isle, but not as complete as the affiliated Superstore.
I recommend No Frills for those who are on a budget, what they do sell is of decent quality or better (outside the produce), and the price rocks every other grocery store in town. Where they fail is in variety of groceries, freshness of produce, and lack of deli.May 29, 2017 - 4 / 5By RJ PinckGood prices. Decent meat and produceApril 04, 2017
